Magrock is setting a new standard of wellbeing in construction, as the company moves its 125 employees onto industry leading new full-time contracts, that redefine the working week.
The company-wide initiative gives all employees greate rchoice in how they structure their working week, allowing everyone to either condense their contracted hours into four days or spread their hours across five days, with an option that includes working from home on the fifth day. This ground breaking company-wide move focuses on providing employees flexibility without disruption to company efficiency or delivery.
This follows the successful trial of a four and a half day working week, rolled out nationally across regional offices and the live construction sites. Over the course of a year, Magrock gathered feedback directly from employees and monitored business productivity and operational output throughout. Responding to employee's feedback was key to the success of this move, with overwhelming positive results consistently highlighting themes around work-life balance, flexibility, communication, collaboration, and creating a workplace that supports people both professionally and personally.
The initiative comes as Magrock celebrates its ten-year anniversary ,a milestone the company has used not only to reflect on what's been built, but to look closely at how it wants to work for the decade ahead. The new contract positions Magrock as a forward-thinking employer with ambitious growth plans, while remaining a great place to work. It marks a deliberate step towards becoming a truly values-based business, built on a culture of passion, trust and respect.

"At Magrock, we've always believed that our people are our greatest asset and that the 'Magrock Way' is built on valuing and investing in them. The idea wasn't simply to reduce working hours. It was about creating a happier, more engaged workforce, while maintaining productivity and delivering the high standards our clients expect. Over the past decade we have earned a reputation for doing things our own way, and we believe no other construction company in the UK has gone this far to deliver a healthier balance between career and personal life. Seeing this change come to fruition, in our tenth year, is something we're really proud of."
The move recognises the world of work is changing, whilst ensuring construction delivery remains true to client and project partners ambitions and deadlines. The initiative is structured to ensure Magrock maintains full operational capability across the working week while focusing on improving efficiency, planning workloads effectively, and ensuring teams remain fully available to support clients throughout the week.

" This hasn't happened overnight. It's been a long journey of conversations, feedback, testing, learning and, at times, taking a leap of faith. What has stood out throughout, is the commitment from the leadership team to do what's right for our people, even when it means stepping outside of our comfort zone and doing things differently from the rest of the industry. As Head of People, you always hope to influence positive change, but being part of something that can have a lasting positive impact on employees' lives is incredibly special. Seeing this become a reality, knowing it was shaped by the voices of our people and fully backed by the business, makes me immensely proud.
Magrock will mark the milestone with celebrations across the business: at both regional offices, London & South and Midlands & North, and on every live project site.
